Au milieu du XXème siècle, la musique gospel de Louisville était occasionnellement enregistrée lorsque les membres de la communauté gospel locale pressaient des disques 45 tours et les distribuaient par l'intermédiaire de labels locaux tels que Sensational Sounds, Grace, Blessed et D.J.S. Au fil des années, un ensemble substantiel d'oeuvres a été produit dans la ville, mais ces enregistrements sont menacés d'être perdus à tout jamais.

Le Louisville Story Program a travaillé avec des dizaines de personnes de la communauté locale de la musique gospel pour localiser, numériser et préserver des centaines de ces enregistrements et pour élaborer un livre qui documente et honore l'héritage des personnes et des communautés qui les ont produits.
