Initialement publié en novembre 1971, l'album était la première sortie du groupe et comprenait un morceau de musique continu divisé en 13 pistes. Cette impressionnante oeuvre conceptuelle inspirée de la science-fiction, qui a été interprétée comme un commentaire sur la course aux armements nucléaires, a été le premier album du groupe et est paru à l'origine en Allemagne, le pays où le groupe britannique s'est formé et était basé, bénéficiant d'un succès commercial et construisant la fidélité de Nektar.
